Experts in Tooth Removal and Dental Extractions

Tooth extraction is something that can strike fear into the hearts of most. But it doesn’t have to be the unpleasant experience you may be expecting that you have had elsewhere. When you come to our Gold Coast dental clinic for tooth removal or dental extraction, we always aim to be as minimally invasive as possible and preserve the bone as much as we can in order to keep the area ready for a possible implant down the track.

People need dental extraction for a number of reasons. It could be the tooth is damaged beyond repair, or the gum disease is so severe that there is no supporting structure to hold the tooth.

What Steps Are Involved in Tooth Removal?

Consultation:

Before the extraction we will examine the affected tooth and take X-rays to determine the best course of treatment. We also discuss the extraction procedure with you and answer any questions you may have.

Anaesthesia:

Before the extraction we will numb the area around the tooth using a local anaesthetic. This helps reduce any discomfort during the procedure. In some cases, you may be given a sedative to help you relax, as we know how confronting the thought of having a tooth removed can be for many people.

Tooth removal:

We use special tools to loosen the tooth and remove it from the socket. In some cases, the tooth may need to be broken into smaller pieces to make it easier to remove. Rest assured with every patient we make sure to use the least invasive form of removal to provide you with the most comfort we can.

Closure:

After the tooth is removed, the socket is cleaned and packed with gauze to stop any bleeding. We may also stitch the gum tissue closed, if necessary.

Aftercare:

We provide you with instructions on how to care for the extraction site, including how to manage any pain or swelling, how to brush and floss the surrounding teeth, and when to return for a follow-up appointment.

After the tooth extraction, the patient may experience some discomfort and swelling, which can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs.

In some cases, our Gold Coast dentists may recommend a replacement tooth, such as a dental implant or bridge, to restore the function and appearance of the missing tooth. This can help prevent further dental problems from developing and maintain a healthy, functional bite. This is determined on a case by case basis and we make sure you have input into your treatment every step of the way.
