Experts in Wisdom Teeth Extractions

When it comes to wisdom tooth extraction on the Gold Coast, we are here to help.

Our dental experts will always try our best to minimise the removal of bone and use Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF) to enhance the healing process and provide less chance for infection of the area while you are recovering. Through using CGF we have noticed a marked reduction in dry socket pain and related issues.

If you require sedation for your wisdom tooth extraction, we work with our trusted medical anaesthetist on-site to give you IV sedation.

If your wisdom tooth extraction is assessed to be particularly complicated , we will refer you on to a trusted oral maxillofacial surgeon.

What is Wisdom Teeth Extraction All About?

Wisdom teeth extraction is a common dental procedure that involves removing one or more wisdom teeth, which are the molars located at the back of the mouth. These teeth usually emerge in the late teenage years or early adulthood, but they can cause problems if they do not have enough room to grow or if they emerge in a position that is difficult to clean. Wisdom tooth extraction is extremely common.

Here are some of the reasons why we remove wisdom teeth:

Impacted teeth:

Wisdom teeth can become impacted, which means they are unable to fully emerge from the gums. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, infection, and other dental problems.

Crowding:

Wisdom teeth can cause crowding in the mouth, which can lead to misalignment of other teeth or difficulty with completed orthodontic treatments, causing the newly aligned teeth to move again.

Decay or infection:

Wisdom teeth are difficult to clean due to their position at the very back of the mouth, which can increase the risk of decay and infection. Removing the wisdom teeth can help improve overall dental health.

The Wisdom Teeth Extraction Procedure Steps:

Consultation:

We will examine the wisdom teeth and take X-rays to determine the best course of treatment.

Anaesthesia:

We numb the area around the wisdom teeth using a local anaesthetic. In some cases, you may be given a sedative to help you relax.

Tooth removal:

We use special tools to loosen the wisdom teeth and remove them from the socket, as with a regular tooth extraction. In some cases, the teeth may need to be broken into smaller pieces to make them easier to remove.

Closure:

After the wisdom teeth are removed, the socket will be cleaned and may be packed with gauze to stop any bleeding. We then stitch the gum tissue closed, if necessary.

Aftercare:

We will provide the patient with instructions on how to care for the extraction site, including how to manage any pain or swelling, how to brush and floss the other teeth, and when to return for a follow-up appointment.

We are very experienced with wisdom teeth extraction and provide comprehensive aftercare instructions. We are also available at any time to chat with you if you are experiencing concern or pain after the extraction.

Most discomfort and swelling can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and ice packs.
