- After the teeth have been scaled, we use a high-powered electric brush and a gritty toothpaste to polish the teeth and remove any remaining plaque or stains. We also floss between the teeth to remove any debris or plaque that may have accumulated in these hard-to-reach areas.
- Once the tooth scaling and cleaning is complete, we apply a fluoride treatment to the teeth. Fluoride is a mineral that can help strengthen the tooth enamel and prevent cavities.

While tooth scaling and cleaning is a routine dental procedure, some patients may experience some discomfort or sensitivity during the procedure. This is typically mild and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen.
Patients with more sensitive teeth may want to consider using a desensitising toothpaste such as Sensodyne or discuss other options with us during your appointment.
In addition to regular tooth scaling and cleaning, you should also practice good oral hygiene habits at home, such as brushing twice a day and flossing daily.
