When a Gold Coast patient comes to us needing a tooth implant we will conduct an in depth consultation to make sure they are suitable for this procedure and that it will ultimately benefit them.
Once we decide to go ahead with implant treatment, we try to be as minimally invasive as possible using Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF) and a digital surgical guide that shows us where the tooth is going to be placed and how much bone we’re going to have when the implant is placed as well as where exactly to drill. We plan everything before the procedure on our software, so we have a clear plan to avoid unnecessary discomfort or anxiety to the patient.
Sometimes a patient may require a sinus lift. This happens when someone has had teeth missing for a longer period of time and the air cell in the sinus has come down. We need to lift the sinus and place a bone graft into it. We can safely do this in our rooms using PIEZO surgery and using CGF. If the sinus lift is more complex and major we may need to refer the patient out for this part of the treatment plan.
About Dental Implants
Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. They are artificial tooth roots made of biocompatible materials such as titanium, which are surgically placed into the jawbone to support a replacement tooth or bridge.
The process of getting dental implants involves several steps:
- A comprehensive dental examination and consultation is performed to determine if the patient is a good candidate for the procedure. This may include X-rays or CT scans to assess the health and structure of the jawbone.
- Once a patient is deemed a good candidate for dental implants, the implantation process can begin. This involves a minor surgical procedure in which the implant is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. After the implant is placed, a healing process of several months is required to allow the implant to fuse with the bone and create a strong, stable foundation for the replacement tooth.
- Once the implant has fully fused with the jawbone, the final step is to attach the replacement tooth or bridge. This may involve placing a dental crown or bridge over the implant, which is custom-made to match the colour and shape of the patient's natural teeth.
One of the main benefits of dental implants is their ability to mimic the look and function of natural teeth. Because they are surgically implanted into the jawbone, they provide a strong, stable base for the replacement tooth that allows for normal eating and speaking. Additionally, dental implants are designed to be long-lasting and durable, with many lasting for decades or even a lifetime with proper care.
