The process of getting a dental sealant is quick and painless. We clean the tooth and apply an acid solution to the chewing surface to roughen it up. This helps the sealant adhere better to the tooth. The sealant is then painted onto the tooth and allowed to dry. Once the sealant is dry, it creates a protective barrier over the tooth that helps prevent bacteria and food particles from getting trapped in the grooves and pits.
Dental sealants are an effective way to prevent tooth decay, especially in children and adolescents. Sealants can reduce the risk of cavities by up to 80% in the first two years after they are applied. Sealants can also continue to provide protection for up to 10 years with proper care.
